Wall climber spotted!

by Ed Rozmiarek

Green anole
No, this isn't a lame advertisement for the new Spiderman movie (although that is the next movie on my "must see" list for this summer). No, I was walking around the house this weekend and spotted one of the many green anoles that hang around the house and thought that this would be a good time to try out my new camera.

After joining the digital camera revolution about 2 1/2 years ago, I have outgrown my first digital camera. The resolution was OK, it just had a couple nagging limitations and I really wanted a better zoom. So, after doing lots of web surfing and virtual and real comparison shopping, I broke down and picked up a Kodak DX6490. The main feature I wanted was a 10X zoom, so that narrowed done my choices pretty quickly. I compared the Kodak with the Olympus C-750 and the Fujifilm FinePix S5000. After reading some reviews, they all appeared to take nice pictures, got mostly positive comments and the prices were within my budget. I settled on the Kodak due to several features, it has a better resolution (4 megapel), it "felt" better in my hand and it has a "burst" feature (it will take 6 frames in 2 seconds) which should come in handy during the kids sports.

So I've had the camera about a week now and taken a few pictures at our regular game night and this weekend of the anole and I have generally been pleased with the initial results. The true test will come later this summer on our vacation and in the fall once soccer season starts back up. Hopefully this camera will last me another couple years at which time I hope the true digital SLRs will be cheap enough to make the final leap.
